About Me
In an attempt to get some sleep, I discovered something that would change my world forever…
In 1987 I moved to New York City and quickly discovered that it was truly the city that never sleeps. I found myself lying awake at nights, unable to rest, tormented by the constant chaos that lurked just outside the bedroom window.
I lived in a small apartment in Hell’s Kitchen, a section of midtown manhattan which was, at the time, notorious for its slums and high crime. It was a wild environment— friends didn’t feel safe staying with me. Prostitutes, drugged-out homeless people, and gang members roamed the street. The air was filled with the sounds of taxis honking, car alarms blaring, glass bottles shattering, people yelling obscenities, gunshots—and because I lived across the street from a fire station, there were the occasional fire truck sirens thrown into the mix.
Quite unexpectedly, I discovered meditation and soon found myself sleeping like a baby.
I was so intrigued by the results that I dedicated myself to years of study.
I read voraciously and obsessively practiced what I learned about the numerous schools of thought on meditation, mind, philosophy, psychology, brain science, consciousness, and enlightenment.Â
I travelled far and wide to be in the presence of great meditation masters, spiritual leaders, healers, and gurus, and I visited numerous places of healing or of spiritual significance.Â
I was a sponge soaking up every drop of information I encountered.
